The hallway seam that made me flip my direction method
For about 5 years I always laid seams running the same way as the longest wall, figured that was just how it's done. Last month I did a long hallway in a house near Dayton and the customer kept walking past and staring at it. Finally she said 'why does the light catch that line so bad?' I brushed it off at first, but then I knelt down and saw it. The seam was glowing because the pile was leaning opposite to how people walk that hall. I ripped it out and re-laid the pieces going across the narrow width instead. Took me an extra 6 hours but the line vanished. Has anyone else had a moment where a customer's simple question made you see a basic habit was totally wrong? I'm curious how many of us are doing seams backwards and just never noticed.
