That power stretcher kick plate with no teeth might be your problem

Did a job in Phoenix last week, homeowner had a wrinkle that kept coming back about 3 feet from the wall. The other guy who installed it blamed the pad. I looked at the kick plate on his power stretcher and the teeth were worn flat. He never replaced it because it still 'looked fine' from a distance. We swapped in a new plate and that carpet laid down flat in one pass. I've seen this in at least 8 different houses this year. People forget those teeth are what actually bite into the carpet backing. If you're getting repeat wrinkles near seams or walls, check that plate before you start blaming the stretch or the carpet. My rule now is to run a fingernail across the teeth before every big room. Costs maybe $25 to replace. When's the last time you actually looked at yours?
