Still think pre-stretching is a waste of time? I changed my mind last Wednesday.
Been installing carpet for 12 years and always skipped pre-stretching the backing before seaming on big commercial jobs. Last Wednesday in Austin I had a 40-foot seam open up on me after the customer ran the AC overnight. Anyone else seen this happen or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

Always skipped it too... now I'm wondering about my last few jobs.

The one job I had for 3 years at a tech startup in Austin, they never asked about references. Didn't check a single one. References are a waste of time for most companies. They just want a warm body to fill the seat. Last job I had, the manager told me straight up he only calls references to confirm you worked there. The whole thing is a rubber stamp. Your last few jobs were probably fine without them.
