Found out my knee pads were 12 years old during a job in Cleveland

I was installing a berber loop in a basement last week and my knees started hurting way worse than normal. Took a break and actually looked at the date stamped on my old ProKnee pads - they were from 2012. I guess foam breaks down over time even if it looks fine. Anyone else realize their gear is way older than they thought?

Had a buddy who did tile work for about 15 years. He was complaining about his back hurting more than usual and his knee pads just didn't feel right anymore. Finally checked them and they were from 2005. He said the foam had basically turned into a hard plastic shell on the inside. He went out and bought a new set and said it was like kneeling on clouds compared to what he had been using. The weird part was the outside still looked totally fine, just a little scuffed up.

Knee pads can definitely lose their padding over time though lol.

The weird part was the case looked brand new, but the mechanism was completely rusted inside from drywall dust getting in there.
