Finally figured out how to avoid power stretcher marks on Berber carpet

After dealing with those annoying marks on a client's Berber install in Phoenix last month, I tried using a knee kicker with a wider block and a little extra padding underneath. It took me three tries to get the tension right without leaving any lines, but it worked like a charm. Has anyone else found a reliable trick for this or do you just stick with power stretchers and hope for the best?

Oh man, I feel your pain with those Berber marks. I did a living room in Scottsdale last year and the power stretcher left lines that drove me crazy. I switched to a knee kicker with a 12 inch block and put a scrap piece of carpet pad between the block and the carpet. That extra layer really helped spread the pressure out and the marks disappeared. Took me two tries to get the tension just right but it was so worth it.

Did you try stretching it tight first or just laying it loose? I always found Berber fights back when you overstretch it. That pad trick sounds smart though, might steal that one for my next job.
