Did a house in Bellevue yesterday that was a total eye-opener

I pulled up old carpet from a 1980s rancher that was all matted and yellowed, then put in a nice plush texture neutral beige. The homeowner said the old stuff had been there 38 years and the difference was night and day. What surprised me was how the room actually felt bigger and brighter after the swap. Anyone else find that newer carpet really changes the whole feel of a space?

Wait... you're saying older carpet can make a room feel smaller? I used to think carpet was carpet and it didn't really matter that much... but you got me thinking. I had this old brown shag in my basement for years and always wondered why it felt so cramped and dark down there. Finally swapped it out for a lighter color and the difference was wild... the whole space opened up and felt way less stuffy. I honestly didn't believe people when they said carpet changes the feel of a room that much but now I get it. The texture and color together really make a difference in how the light bounces around too.
