Tried 16 penny nails on my sister's deck in Boise and split 4 boards in a row
I was helping my sister rebuild her back deck in Boise a few weeks ago and figured I would just face nail the 5/4 cedar boards with 16 penny nails like I do with framing. Split 4 boards in a row before my brother in law handed me his 15 gauge finish nailer and told me to quit being stubborn. Ended up renting a hidden fastener tool from the shop down on State Street and burned through the whole deck in a day and a half with zero splits. How do you all handle 5/4 decking when the homeowner wants a clean face with no visible screws?
