That customer in Tacoma who asked me to build a birdhouse with a doggy door
I had this guy in Tacoma last summer who insisted his birdhouse needed a doggy door for squirrels. He said, 'They're just furry little neighbors trying to get in.' I built it with a 2 inch flap and he was thrilled. Has anyone else gotten weird custom requests like that?

And the REAL question nobody's asking is what kind of bird would even USE a house with a doggy door. Like, finches and wrens don't exactly pause at the threshold and decide to squeeze through a little flap. That guy basically built a squirrel snack shack with extra steps. I bet he fed them peanuts through it too.

Wait, are you saying that little flap would actually keep the squirrels out? I used to think a doggy door on a bird house was genius, just a clever way to keep the big bullies from stealing the seeds. But now you got me picturing a tiny little chickadee trying to muscle through a flap that weighs more than it does, and yeah, that's just a squirrel buffet. A hinged door that a squirrel can just push open with its head isn't a bird house, it's basically an invitation.
