Spent 5 years fighting with my miter saw until I saw a video that showed me how wrong I was

I was always getting gaps in my crown molding joints and just blamed the saw. Turns out I was rotating the blade in the wrong direction for the cut and it was pulling the wood sideways. Anyone else have a basic setup trick that took them way too long to figure out?

Holding the work piece tight against the fence changed everything for me too.

Tight against the fence" is the exact tip that clicked for me too. I used to leave tiny gaps and wondered why my cuts were always off by a hair. Once I got in the habit of really pushing the work into the fence every single pass, everything squared up perfectly and saved me a ton of frustration.
