Old timer told me to stop using finish nails for face frames
This guy Hank from a job site in Austin called me out for using 18ga finish nails on my face frames. Said the pull strength is garbage and I should switch to 16ga for anything load bearing. Tried it on a pantry cabinet last week and the difference in holding power is night and day. Anyone else change their nail gauge after getting roasted by a veteran?

Feels like half of learning is just getting roasted by old guys who know better.

Used to think old guys were just gatekeeping, but @barbara429 you're totally right. Getting roasted by someone who's been there actually forces you to git gud or prove them wrong. Their short cuts are usually worth more than a whole textbook anyway.
