I used to cut all my trim with a miter saw until a job in Denver made me switch to a coping saw for inside corners

Oh man, that's the real deal right there. Coping is the only way to get a perfect inside corner that won't open up when the wood moves. A miter will always, always show a gap eventually. It takes practice but it's worth it.

Used to think miters were fine until @the_val's post made me try coping, and wow, what a difference.

Three houses and twenty pounds of caulk later, I finally gave up pretending my miters were tight... coping saws are cheaper than therapy I guess.
