Got my first solo kitchen cabinet job done in Pittsburgh last weekend

I've been doing flooring for years but finally took on a full cabinet install for a buddy's kitchen remodel. Had to scribe the end panel to a crooked wall and it took me three tries to get it right. The reveal gaps came out at a consistent 1/8 inch all the way across. Has anyone else found that old houses never have a single square wall to work with?

Yeah, that "crooked wall" bit hit home for me. In my experience, old Pittsburgh houses are basically built on a foundation of crooked walls and floors that have settled every which way over the last hundred years. I've learned to check for plumb and level on every single run now, even if the wall looks straight to the eye. That 1/8 inch reveal is really solid, by the way. Most guys I know are happy with a quarter inch on a first shot. Your mileage may vary, but I've found that taking your time on the scribe is worth it, even if it means a couple extra trips to the saw or a lot of sanding. Better to fix it on the bench than to have a gap staring at you every time someone walks through the kitchen.
