Finished my first solo built-in bookshelf project in my own house

Three years ago I was just a helper, but last week I finally cut and fit every piece myself in the den. Anyone have tips for getting that final coat of poly to lay down perfectly without brush marks?

Brush marks give it character, man.

Yeah but where do you draw the line, @michael_wood32? Like, when do brush marks just look messy instead of cool?

Doesn't it depend on what you're trying to say with the piece though? Like if it's a quick sketch or a loose abstract thing then sure, brush marks can add energy and movement. But if you're going for something more polished or realistic, I feel like those marks just look unfinished and sloppy, not stylish. That's where I'd draw the line @michael_wood32 - when the marks fight what the painting is trying to be.
