Caught myself squaring up tape measures wrong for like 6 years

Ngl I was out on a deck build in Austin and a framer pointed out that I was hooking the tape on the outside of the board instead of the inside. All those cuts being off by 1/16th and I just blamed the saw. Has anyone else had some dumb habit that took way too long to catch?

Everybody has that one thing they've been doing wrong for years but convinced themselves it was fine.

I mean @river_wright, I get where you're coming from but honestly... a 16th of an inch on a deck? In Austin with all that humidity and wood movement? That board's gonna swell and shrink more than 1/16th by next Tuesday. Half the time I think we overthink this stuff and the wood just does whatever it wants anyway. Now if you're doing cabinets or furniture, yeah that's a different story, but a deck?
