Warning: switching jobs a few times boosted my pay faster
Most advice says to stay put, but I got bigger raises by moving. It's scary but worth it if you're smart about it, lol.

That pay range research tip is smart... but what if the company doesn't post it? Had a friend find the range online, but the offer came in way lower. How do you push for the top of a range you're not supposed to know, or handle it when they say the budget is less than what you found?

Yeah that's the tricky part. I'd just say you've seen similar roles in that range and ask if there's room to match it. Sometimes they're bluffing about the budget.

What field are you in? One thing that really helped me was looking up the pay range for a role before even applying, so I knew what number to aim for during talks.
