Vent: that $400 trade class was the best money I've put into my crew
Two winters back I paid $400 out of my own pocket for a weekend class on backflow testing, mostly because I was bored and my helper kept asking about it. Turned out the certificate lets us do work we used to hand off to a sub, and I'm not joking when I say it paid for itself on the very first job in March. I figured it would be a waste like most of those online things, but this one had a real tester and a real valve to mess with. My helper took the same class last fall and now he runs that part of the jobs himself. If you run a small crew, a short cert class can do more for you than another tool you'll barely touch. What certs or classes actually moved the needle for people here, and which ones were a total waste?
