Vent: A client's 'simple' engine swap turned into a 14 hour day because I didn't ask the right questions upfront.

Oof, that's brutal. Those "simple" jobs always have hidden gremlins. What was the main thing you missed asking?

Honestly, "hidden gremlins" is the perfect way to put it. Tbh, I always forget to ask about the actual daily schedule, not just the posted hours. Like, does the "9-5" mean you start seeing patients right at 9, or is there a 30 minute morning huddle first? That stuff adds up. Also, what's the real policy on running late? Some offices make you squeeze people in, others actually build in buffer time. It changes everything.

Not to downplay your day, but 14 hours for an engine swap doesn't sound that crazy to me. Those jobs always run long even when you ask every question. I've had flat tires turn into full afternoons because the lug nuts were welded on from rust. Sometimes you just have to accept that cars are unpredictable and no amount of questions will fix that. Was the customer upset or was it just a long day? If they were happy with the work, that's what really matters.
