The whole 'follow your passion' advice is ruining careers for people who just want a steady paycheck

Has anyone else noticed that the hustle culture crowd conveniently ignores that most people just need reliable income, not a calling?

My cousin followed his guitar passion straight into credit card debt.

I actually see it the opposite way. The people who hate "follow your passion" are usually the ones who took bad advice and chased something unrealistic. It's not the advice that's broken, it's how people interpret it. Having a steady paycheck is fine, but if you hate what you do for 40 hours a week, that paycheck doesn't mean much in the long run. The key is finding a balance where your work doesn't kill your soul but still pays the bills. Most people I know who are miserable in their jobs didn't follow their passion, they followed the money and ended up burned out anyway. The real problem is acting like passion and a paycheck have to be enemies, they don't.
