That 'follow your passion' advice is ruining people's careers
I've seen three friends quit stable jobs to chase creative passions and now they're all broke and stressed out in Austin. Why does nobody talk about how passion doesn't pay the rent when you're competing with people who have 10 years more experience?

Wait, @riley58 learned guitar in a weekend? That's insane, I've been playing for two years and still can't get through a full song without messing up the F chord.

Yeah that "passion pays the bills" line feels like a scam, kind of like me thinking I could learn guitar in a weekend just because I owned one. My bank account would have been way happier if I’d stuck with something boring but steady.
