Shoutout to the guy who got fired at my old job in Phoenix for being too honest
I was working at a tech startup there about 2 years ago, and we had this senior dev who pointed out a major security flaw in a product we were about to launch. Management told him to ignore it and push forward. He sent an email to the whole team explaining the risk. They fired him the next day. I mean, it was brutal. But watching that happen made me decide I would never stay quiet about something that could hurt people just to keep a job. Now I always ask the hard questions early, even if it's uncomfortable. Has anyone else had a moment at work that made them draw a line like that?

Oh man, that story hits close to home. I got a talking-to once for pointing out a billing error that was overcharging customers, and my boss called it "not a team player energy." I guess my line is getting fired for math, which is a pretty lame hill to die on.

Wait, what does "team player" even mean in that situation? @the_piper, your boss basically wanted you to help overcharge people and stay quiet. That's not teamwork, that's covering for a mistake that costs customers money. I'd be looking at that place sideways forever after that. Getting called out for doing the right math is the most backwards thing. Makes you wonder what else they're okay with letting slide.

Seriously, that "team player" line is just code for "don't rock the boat." It means they value quiet compliance over fixing real problems. Makes you question the whole company's ethics if pointing out a mistake is seen as a bad thing. That kind of attitude is how small errors turn into huge, legal messes later on.
