Just realized I was wasting hours every week in meetings until my manager in Austin told me to send a pre-read doc first.

That pre-read trick only works if people actually read it first.

Tell me about it. I've sent pre-reads that get ignored so hard they should come with a return receipt for my wasted time. It's like people see an email with an attachment and their brain just shuts off. The trick only works if you're dealing with someone who actually opens stuff, otherwise you're just talking to yourself with extra steps. Feels like a test to see who's paying attention, and most folks are failing.

Totally feel that pain. Try putting the key points in the email body itself, right above the attachment link. Something like "For the meeting, we just need to decide on X and Y. The attached doc has the data, but main options are A or B." Makes it skimmable for the lazy folks and still gives detail for the readers.
