Honestly, my burger flipper interview included a ketchup explosion

Tbh, I squeezed the bottle too hard and it shot across the room. The boss just said 'good pressure control' and hired me on the spot. Ngl, sometimes mistakes show your fit for the job.

I mean, that's a funny story and all, but idk if I'd call that a mistake showing your fit. It sounds more like the boss just had a good sense of humor about an accident. Maybe it's just me, but a real mistake that shows fit would be like, forgetting to restock something but then figuring out a faster system to prevent it. The ketchup thing is just a lucky break where the person in charge didn't get mad. It shows their character, not really yours, you know?

Ever think we overthink what counts as a real mistake?

Seriously, a podcast host said interview mess-ups can reveal the best hires.

But you know, I see where robins92 is coming from, but that ketchup mess might have shown more than just a lucky break... like, not panicking and laughing it off proves you can handle a chaotic shift. The boss probably valued how the person stayed calm and rolled with the punch. Sometimes a quick reaction to a dumb accident tells you all you need to know about fit. It’s about showing you won’t stress over every little spill or mistake. So yeah, that explosion could have been a weirdly perfect way to spot the right person.
