Tried the $50 Craigslist car hauler trick and my Volvo ended up 200 miles away
So I bought this 1998 Volvo wagon in Phoenix and needed it shipped up to Denver, and I figured I would save money by finding a guy with a dually and a flatbed on Craigslist instead of using a real broker. His listing said "transport any car anywhere, $50 booking fee" so I sent him the cash and gave him my mom's address as the drop spot. Four days go by, no calls, and then my mom texts me a photo of an empty street in Albuquerque and says a guy just dropped the Volvo off and drove away. Turns out the driver misread the zip code and left my car sitting outside a Motel 6 in New Mexico, and the "broker" never answered his phone again. I paid another $340 to get it the rest of the way home with a real carrier, which is honestly what I should have done the first time. Has anyone else gotten burned by these cheap booking fee guys, or did I just pick the worst one?
