Warning: I stopped washing my car every two weeks and the paint looks better at 3 months
I know everyone in this community swears by the two bucket wash every weekend and I used to be right there with you. I live near Phoenix so my car gets dust and sun nonstop, and I was washing it every two weeks for like three years. Then in April my work schedule got crazy and I went almost 9 weeks without touching it except for rain. When I finally got around to a wash I swear the paint looked deeper and glossier than it ever did during my weekend routine. I think I was actually scratching it more than I was helping, all that scrubbing on dusty paint with cheap towels added up. Now I do a rinse less wipe down maybe once a month and a real wash every 6 to 8 weeks and my clear coat has way fewer swirl marks than before. My neighbor thinks I'm nuts but he also pays for a detail every quarter so his opinion is questionable. Has anyone else backed off the wash schedule and seen the same thing, or am I just fooling myself?
