Hot take: 4 hours of scrubbing my engine bay taught me to just fix the oil leak first
I noticed a burnt smell from my 2014 Corolla back in March and figured it was just old grime, so I went at the valve cover with degreaser and a stiff brush for about 4 hours. Turned out the real issue was a leaking gasket dripping oil right onto the exhaust manifold, which took my neighbor Gary like 20 minutes to spot with a flashlight. Wish I had traced the source before going full detail mode on a spotless block. Anyone else do the deep clean before finding the actual leak?
