Appreciation post: I was exporting PNGs for 2 years before a printer in Phoenix showed me what I was losing
Real talk, I want to say thanks to a print guy named Marcus at a small shop in Phoenix who saved me from myself. I had been making flyers and social graphics in Canva for about 2 years, and every single time I hit download, I picked PNG because it looked clean on my screen. Marcus pulled up one of my files and zoomed to 400 percent, and the text edges were fuzzy and soft like hair. He said, "you gave me a photo of your design, not the design itself." That one line wrecked me. He explained that PNG flattens everything into pixels at the size I exported, so when he scaled it up for a 24 inch poster, the whole thing turned to mush. Now I check export settings before I do anything else, and I export at the biggest size I can, or I hand over a vector file when the tool lets me. Anyone else out there still exporting PNGs at default size and wondering why stuff looks rough in print? What ended up being your wake up call?
