A Canva user told me her logo file was 'locked' and I laughed, then felt bad
So I was helping my cousin set up a bakery page in Canva over the weekend, and she grabbed one of those free templates and dragged a logo in. She goes "why can't I move this text, it's locked." I pull it up and sure enough, this whole template blocks about 80 percent of the elements unless you unlock them one by one. That's not a bug, that's the whole point of the thing. Canva locks stuff so beginners don't wreck the layout, but it also means you basically can't customize anything real without fighting it. In Figma I would just click the layer and it moves, period. It took us 25 minutes to swap a color on a price tag because every piece sat inside a nested group. I get why Canva does it, but people act like the two tools are close and they really aren't. What's your worst locked-element story, and did you just rebuild it from scratch like I ended up doing?
Why did you laugh at her though? She's not wrong, the file was literally locked. That's Canva working as made, not her being dumb. And honestly I don't get the "you can't customize anything real" take. Unlocking a layer is one click, same as clicking a layer in Figma. Yeah the nested groups are annoying and 25 minutes for a price tag color is rough, but that's a badly built template, not proof the tools are worlds apart. Sounds less like Canva is the problem and more like you went in expecting Figma and got mad it wasn't Figma.
