Why I still use a heavy cook set after a windy lakeside vacation

I know everyone says to buy the lightest cookware for camping, but I don't agree. On our week-long trip by the lake, it was really windy. My buddies had those expensive titanium pots that kept tipping over. My heavier stainless steel set stayed on the stove and heated food better. The wind didn't mess with it at all. For me, having gear that works well is more important than saving a few ounces. I'll stick with my reliable old cook set for trips like that.

Seriously! I read this old backpacking book that talked about the same thing. The author said sometimes you need a bit of weight in your pot for it to sit right on a small stove, especially in wind. He even suggested putting a few clean rocks in a titanium pot if you had to. Your story totally proves that point, it's all about what works.

Tried that once, works better than a spilled dinner.

That old backpacking book from the 70s had some crazy tips. Adding clean rocks to a titanium pot totally defeats the purpose of going light. But then again, a stable meal beats a windy disaster any day.
