That gas station clerk in Moab told me my stove tank was empty, then asked why I was cooking at 8am

I was boiling water for coffee outside the Shell station and this old guy comes over, says the tank feels too light, and he was right. I'd been using that propane canister all weekend without checking the weight, stupid move. He said he's seen three people run out of fuel mid-meal on the trails just this month. Has anyone else had a stranger catch a gear mistake before you do?

Betting that old timer has saved more than a few campers from cold dinners, those guys at gas stations in tourist towns have seen it all. He probably knew your tank was light the second you set it down, that's a skill you only get from hundreds of trail stories.
