Pro tip: That $60 "ultralight" sleeping pad is a total joke
I bought a random off-brand inflatable pad on Amazon back in May for a 3 night trip in the Smokies. By night two it had a slow leak and I woke up on the ground at 3 AM with my hip digging into a rock. Patching it did nothing because the seam split open instead of a pinhole. So I wasted $60 and had to sleep in my car the last night. Has anyone else had luck with those cheap foam pads or is the extra weight worth it?

Ha, sounds like you paid $60 for a fancy air mattress that doubles as a rock detector!

Did you actually check the valve before you gave up on it? I've seen a lot of those cheap pads where the valve itself leaks because the plastic flap doesn't seal right, not the mattress fabric. Sometimes you can fix it by twisting the cap tighter or putting a piece of tape over the valve opening before you roll it up. Seems like everyone blames the pad for leaking when the real problem is user error with a poorly designed valve system.
