My cheap sleeping pad finally gave out after a wet trip in the Smokies

Woke up on the ground at 3 AM during a downpour outside Gatlinburg because the seam split right down the middle, and I had to spend the rest of the night curled up on a pile of pine needles - anybody else had a piece of budget gear fail at the worst possible moment?

Terry's got a point. It's one of those hard lessons we all seem to learn eventually, especially with gear that's supposed to keep you dry and warm. My own experience taught me that the bargain bin is fine for things like camp towels, but never for anything that needs to hold up in bad weather.

I mean you get what you pay for, cheap gear always lets you down when it matters most.
