Dropped $180 on a down sleeping bag rated for 20 degrees and it saved my butt in the Smokies
Went camping in Great Smoky Mountains National Park this past weekend and temps dropped to 24 overnight, which was way colder than the forecast said. My old bag would've had me shivering all night but this thing kept me warm enough to actually sleep. Anyone else gotten burned by a forecast that was off by 15 degrees?
Camped near Clingmans Dome a few Octobers back and the forecast said low 40s, woke up to frost on the tent and my water bottle frozen solid. Slept in long johns, a hoodie, and two pairs of socks and still spent half the night curled in a ball. The crazy part is my buddy had a cheap bag from a big box store and swore he was toasty, so who even knows anymore. Forecasts in the mountains are basically a coin flip, a 15 degree miss is almost normal up there. Sounds like that 180 bucks paid for itself in one trip.
