Ditched my $300 down bag for a $60 synthetic, best call I made in Yellowstone

Last summer before a 4 day trip in Yellowstone I had to pick between my fancy 15 degree down bag and a cheap synthetic one I bought on sale. Down is lighter and packs smaller, but I got caught in a downpour on day 2 and my tent let some moisture in. The synthetic bag handled the damp like a champ, kept me warm at 38 degrees that night, and dried out way faster in the morning. Meanwhile my buddy with a similar priced down bag was shivering and miserable because his lost all loft. I still use the down for car camping in dry weather, but for anything wet or remote, synthetic is my go to now. Has anyone else switched away from down after a rainy trip, or am I just unlucky?
