Camper in the next site said my $30 stove boiled faster than his $200 one, so I timed them
He was right, mine hit a rolling boil in 3 minutes 40 seconds and his took almost 6. Turns out the cheap one has a wider burner head that catches more wind, who knew. Anyone else find budget gear that just beats the fancy stuff?
Wind is only half the story though. The real thing is that a cheap stove runs wide open at full blast, while a lot of the pricey ones have a regulator that chokes the gas down to save fuel. So it just feels weaker. I bet if you ran his wide open too, or shielded both from wind, the gap would shrink a lot.
