Went to a used camera shop in Austin and saw a repair horror story sitting on the shelf

I stopped by this little shop on South Congress last Saturday just to browse and ended up chatting with the owner about repairs. He pulled out a Nikon F2 that someone had tried to fix themselves with what looked like a butter knife and some super glue. The mirror box was all scratched up and the light seals were just black silicone globbed on there. I couldn't believe someone would even attempt that without watching a single guide online. It made me wonder how many cameras get ruined by well meaning owners before they ever reach a pro. The owner said he gets one of those DIY disasters about every two months. Has anyone else come across a camera that was way past saving when it got to your bench?

well meaning owners" - yeah I used to think I could fix anything but that changed my mind.

That story about the 10 month old labrador with the twisted stomach ruined me. What was the first major sign that made you realize you had to just let the vet handle it?
