Warning: Don't use a torch to loosen a stuck filter ring inside a lens mount
I was out at a camera swap in Portland last Saturday and this older repair guy told me he uses a small butane torch to loosen stuck filter rings. Seemed sketchy but I tried it on a junked 50mm I had, and I melted the plastic barrel inside the mount in under 5 seconds. Now I'm sour about it and I stick to the rubber stopper method with a spanner wrench. Anyone else have a hack that went horribly wrong like mine?

Bro I did basically the same thing but with a heat gun on a vintage Nikkor. Thought I was being smart and got the filter ring loose in like 10 seconds. Then I realized the whole front element group was basically sagging from the heat and the glass had this weird haze that never went away. The fix was way worse than the problem. Now I just use a rubber jar opener and some penetrating oil and let it sit overnight. Learned that lesson the hard way though.
