Vent: My fancy gear oil vs the cheap stuff, what a difference

I was chasing a sticky aperture blade issue on a Pentax 67 for two days, tried my usual $30 synthetic oil from the shop, no luck. Swapped to the $12 naphtha-based blend from the hardware store in Portland and it freed up in 20 minutes. How is the expensive stuff making things worse, have any of you run into the same with lubricants on older leaf shutters?
