Trying to clean fungus off a lens element and scratched it instead

Was working on a vintage 50mm f/1.4 from a thrift store find, used a microfiber cloth with some lens cleaner. Now there's a hairline scratch right in the center of the rear element. Anyone got a go-to method for fungus that won't wreck the coating?

Microfiber cloths are a total trap for lens work, they just push grit around. It's like how people use windex on their phone screens and wonder why they're scratched to hell six months later. Hope that scratch is shallow enough to not ruin your shots completely.

Wait, didn't your buddy try that same microfiber trick on his camera lens last spring? He spent twenty minutes buffing a single spot only to realize he was just grinding a tiny rock into the glass. Honestly, a rocket blower and some lens cleaning fluid on a proper swab would've saved him sixty bucks and a lot of grief.
