Tried cleaning a sticky aperture with lighter fluid and it actually made the blades sing again
Had a Canon FD 50mm 1.8 on the bench with blades that would hang up around f4, and I was out of the usual solvent so I grabbed a can of Ronsonol from the garage. Put two small drops on the blades, worked them maybe 20 times, and the oil broke loose way faster than I expected. Thing is, it also flushed some gunk down onto the rear element, so I had to pull the whole group and re-clean it, which took an extra hour I had not planned on. Lesson for me is lighter fluid works but only if you can get at the blades without dripping into the glass. Anyone here use a different mix, or is naphtha just the standard and I got lucky?
