Took me 6 hours to find a tiny crack in a Pentax mirror box

I was chasing a soft focus issue on a K1000 for two days, replaced the lens mount and cleaned the mirror twice before I finally looked inside with a loupe. There was this hairline crack in the mirror box casting, maybe 1mm long, that let the mirror sit a fraction off angle. Anybody else had a hidden structural fault that made them question their whole checking routine?
