Spent 3 hours on a stuck filter ring, a hairdryer was the answer and I feel dumb
Last month I had a Nikon 50mm come in with a filter welded on so tight I thought the front element was toast. Tried the rubber band trick, the filter wrench, even a little WD40 on a q tip, and nothing budged until I hit it with a hairdryer for 90 seconds. Anyone else got a go to for these or am I just late to the party?
Funny how heat is the answer to so many stuck things. Rusted bolts, stubborn jar lids, and now camera filters. My wife laughs at me because I keep a heat gun in the kitchen drawer next to the spatulas. The trick is patience, you gotta warm the metal slow so it grows a hair before the glass does. Cold works too on the flip side, a little canned air upside down can shrink a stuck ring if you get the right spot. You're not late, you just learned the one thing nobody puts in the manual.
