Shoutout to the guy at the camera swap meet in Chicago last weekend

I was digging through a box of broken Polaroids when this old timer walked over and pointed out I was holding a repair manual from 1978. He showed me how to unstick a frozen shutter wheel using just lighter fluid and a toothpick. Has anyone else picked up a trick from a random stranger that totally changed how you approach a repair?

Lighter fluid trick saved me on a thrift store camera once.

Yeah I read something online about lighter fluid being good for cleaning old sticky shutter blades. Heard it evaporates fast so it doesn't leave residue like other stuff. @barbara429 did you just use it on the outside or pour a bit inside the camera mechanism? I saw a vintage camera repair blog mention it works on old Polaroids too if they get gunky. That thrift store find must have been a real mess before you cleaned it up.

Did you try that lighter fluid trick yourself yet, @barbara429?
