PSA: I was using too much lubricant on shutters for 5 years
A retired repairman in Portland watched me clean a leaf shutter and said 'stop drowning it' and after 3 tries with less oil my focus ring finally stopped getting sticky, has anyone else had to unlearn over-lubricating?

The "drop of oil on the aperture blades" trick is good advice, but a lot of people miss the part about wiping it completely dry after. The oil migrates anyway. On a Compur shutter, one tiny drop on the pivot post is plenty if you use the right oil. Watchmaker's oil, not 3-in-1. That stuff gets tacky and causes exactly the problem you're describing.

Naphtha on a q-tip first, then oil. You prepping the metal at all?
