Old timer told me to use lighter fluid on sticky apertures - he was right

A guy named Hank who's been fixing cameras since the 70s told me to try lighter fluid on a stuck aperture blade set in a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. I was skeptical because I always used alcohol before. I dabbed a tiny bit on a q-tip, worked it into the blades, and after 2 minutes the aperture snapped open clean. Has anyone else had good results with lighter fluid on old shutters?

Your aperture was that gummed up it needed lighter fluid? I've cleaned dozens of old lenses with just isopropyl and a steady hand and never had a problem.
