My camera's autofocus failed while I was shooting in a desert
I was in the Sahara last month, and my DSLR's autofocus just stopped working. The sand and heat probably messed with the motors. I had to manually focus for the rest of the trip, which was tough but taught me a lot. I tried blowing out the sand with a rocket blower, but it didn't help much. When I got home, I opened it up and cleaned the contacts carefully. Now it works fine, but I'm more cautious about dust. Has anyone else had gear issues in extreme places? What's your go-to fix for sand in cameras?

Ever think manual focus is just a backup plan? I used to hate the idea, but after my lens jammed at the beach, I get what @tyler311 means. Now I practice it all the time, just in case.

Funny how our fancy gear always seems to fail when things get real. Makes you wonder if simpler tools might actually handle the tough stuff better.
