Hit 200th shutter repair last week and it snuck up on me

Ngl, I wasn't even keeping count but I fixed a beat up Canon AE-1 for a guy in Portland and he mentioned it was my 200th. Just shook me a bit cause I started doing this on the side two years ago with a shaky hand and a screwdriver from Harbor Freight. Now I'm at a point where people mail me stuff from other states. Has anyone else had a random milestone make them realize they're actually decent at this?

Wait, you're counting your repairs from the start? I figured you'd have a log or something, but counting by memory is wild. Kinda makes you wonder how many you've actually done if you weren't tracking at first, though.

Counting by memory" is exactly right, man. I don't keep a log either, just kinda know the ones that stood out. Like you said, if you're not tracking from day one, you're probably missing a bunch. That AE-1 in Portland must have been one of those jobs that sticks in your head for some reason. I had a similar thing happen when I fixed a beat up Pentax K1000 for a local teacher and realized I'd done over a hundred cameras without even knowing it. It's a weird feeling when something you just do turns into something you're actually good at, you know? The numbers don't really matter but it's nice to have proof that the shaky hands and cheap tools paid off.

And here I thought @holly47 was the only one who let milestones sneak up on them like that. Guess we're all just out here fixing cameras and losing track of time. Must be something in the air.
