DAE find ribbon cables in point-and-shoots a total nightmare to handle?

I used to ruin these cables every time I tried to replace them. They are fragile and tear if you look at them wrong. After messing up three jobs, I forced myself to learn the proper technique. You have to peel them back slowly with a plastic spudger, not yank them. I practiced on broken cameras from the junk bin until it clicked. Now I can swap them out without causing new damage. It's stupid that this isn't taught more openly.

See, I gotta disagree a bit... maybe I've just been lucky, but I never found them that bad. For me, the trick was to stop using tools on them at all. I just slide a fingernail under the connector latch and flip it up, then the cable slides right out. Trying to peel the cable itself first always seemed like asking for trouble. I dunno, adding a spudger in there just feels like more stuff to mess up.

Yeah exactly, that fingernail method is the real move. I used to fight with plastic tools and always felt like I was gonna snap something. Once I started just popping the latch first, it's been smooth every time.

Ever try warming the connector first with a hair dryer, makes the glue give way without tearing?
