Switched from crimping to fusion splices after a bad Tuesday in Phoenix

Used to crimp every drop off the trunk line, took forever and we had signal loss on about 1 in 12 fittings. Then last March, my crew and I got a new fusion splicer and now a clean splice takes me under 2 minutes at the 4th Street node. The gear cost around $4,200 but the tech support lady said it pays off in six months, and I already see fewer callbacks. Anyone else make the jump and ditch their old crimpers for good?

Losing that 1 in 12 to signal issues is rough, but whats even worse is the time you spend redoing them after the fact. Once you factor in the truck rolls and the customer complaints, that $4,200 really does pay for itself faster than people think. Plus, my guys stopped fighting me about who had to do the crimps that day, which honestly was half the battle. The fusion unit is a bit heavier to haul around, but nobody complains when we're done in half the time. I wouldnt say I ditched the crimpers entirely, they still sit in the truck for a quick fix, but its pretty rare they come out anymore.
