Rant: Remember when you could just run a new drop without checking for a dozen other services?

Three years ago on a job in a quiet part of town, I could drill a hole, run the coax, and be done in under an hour. Last month at a house in the new development off Maple, I had to check for existing fiber, security lines, and even a low-voltage garden light wire before I could even think about my own cable. It took almost three hours just to map everything out. The whole job feels different now. Anyone else spending more time tracing other people's work than doing their own?

Tell me about it. Feels like half my job now is being an archaeologist for other trades. Spent twenty minutes last week just staring at a wall of junction boxes trying to figure out which one was mine.

Seriously three hours just to map stuff out? That's crazy. I mean I get checking for fiber but garden light wires too? @miller.susan is right, it's like being an archaeologist now. I'd lose my mind staring at a wall of boxes for twenty minutes. Feels like the actual install is the easy part these days.

Three hours mapping boxes does seem like a lot. Are people really that disorganized with their labeling or is this just getting blown out of proportion?
