My sister asked me why I still run coax for a living
We were at a family thing last week and she said, 'I thought everything was wireless now.' I tried to explain about signal loss, bandwidth, and how a solid line is still king for real work. But the way she said it, like my job was from another time, it got to me. I've been doing this for eight years and I know the work matters, but it made me wonder how many people think that way. Has anyone else had to defend the actual need for a physical cable install lately?

My buddy's new fiber line gets 950 up and down all day. Wireless can't touch that for real work. Your sister just doesn't get what it takes to move real data. People see their phone and think that's all there is. How do you even start to explain it to someone like that?

Yeah, "people see their phone and think that's all there is" is the whole problem. I just ask them if they'd want their surgeon using a wireless scalpel.
